The seizure had an estimated retail value of \u20ac3.2m representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than \u20ac2.5m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the largest cigarette\nseizure by Revenue so far this year, following a record-breaking year for large-scale\ncigarette and tobacco smuggling in 2021. This latest seizure points to the continuation\nof a rapidly growing black market which Irish retailers are forced to compete\nwith, as sophisticated criminal gangs take advantage of the tidy profits that\ncan now be made from illicit tobacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RAS commends the ongoing\nwork by Revenue officials in the fight against smuggling, particularly at our\nmajor points of entry through ports and airports.
